High Dose Laser Therapy
Family Chiropractic Center is one of the first clinics to offer Class IV or High Dose Laser Therapy (HDLT). Patients who have shown no results with Low Level Laser Therapy have reported significant improvements with this therapy. High Dose Laser Therapy can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions.
High Dose Laser Therapy is different from Low Level Laser Therapy due to administration of higher dosage and wavelength. Better and faster outcomes can be achieved because of the increased dosage of healing energy due to deeper penetration.
High Dose Laser Therapy is an FDA-cleared treatment option that is unique in its ability to penetrate through bone, soft tissue, and muscle to deliver healing light energy to the cells of the body. It is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment approach that treats the underlying cause of pain by actually repairing damaged cells.
A Different Treatment Approach
There are multiple ways to treat acute chronic pain. Pain medications and spinal injections may provide temporary relief, but they do nothing to address the root cause of the pain. Once the medication wears off, the pain returns. They can also be accompanied by serious side effects including other health problems, depression, and addiction. Surgery is expensive, carries its own set of major risks, recovery can last for weeks or months, and the success rates are not as high as one might expect.
This is why High Intensity Laser Therapy is a more viable option. It has seen an 80% success rate at improving function and significantly reducing symptoms.
How Does Laser Therapy Work?
The light energy from our Class 4, therapeutic laser stimulates healing within the cells. It is similar to photosynthesis, when plants convert light energy to food. The light from the laser stimulates cell regeneration and DNA and RNA repairs inside the cells, increases blood flow, and increases metabolic activity. It also decreases chronic pain by ''resetting'' the nerves.
The difference between High Intensity Laser Therapy and Cold Laser Therapy is that our laser is many times stronger than a cold laser, enabling it to reach deeper into the cellular tissue and treat surrounding tissues to provided longer lasting results for our patients.
What to Expect from the Procedure
The light from the laser feels warm on the body. Many patients find the soothing, warm sensation quite relaxing - sometimes even described as 'warm sunshine'. It is important to know that laser therapy requires a series of treatments for it to be effective. While most patients feel relief after a few sessions, for many, the response is more subtle and gradual.
